About The Iodine Solution Herbal Hour:

An Important Key to Restoring and Maintaining Your Health
Iodine deficiency is more widespread than you might think.

Not only is iodine a rare element in the earth's crust, it is tough to obtain adequate iodine in the diet. To make matters worse, there are numerous chemicals that displace iodine in the body, including mercury, flourides, chlorine and bromides. This kicks what little iodine we are getting in our diets out of the body.

Because iodine is an essential element for the thyroid function, it's little wonder that thyroid disorders are so widespread. And, while many people know that iodine is important for the thyroid, most people don't know it is also important for the health of the breasts, reproductive organs in men and women, the nerves, skin and eyes. In fact, every cell in the body needs iodine to function properly.

Let Kimberly Balas, ND and Steven Horne, AGH share with you why iodine is so important to our health, and why millions of Americans simply aren't getting enough. Learn the link between iodine deficiency and numerous diseases including thyroid disorders, breast and prostate cancer, fibromyalgia, fatigue and depression and how to get more iodine into your diet.

Here are some of the Iodine Rich Nature's Sunshine Products we will teach you about, which will help to feed the Thyroid:
Thyroid Support, Thyroid Activator, TS II with Hops, Target TS II, Kelp, Black Walnut, Liquid Dulse. For more information on these products or other Nature's Sunshine Products please email me, and I will send you additional information.

Giving Blood in Charlotte, NC

GIVE BLOOD...SAVE LIVES...FEEL GOOD!

This week our Elementary School had a blood drive. This was a service provided by the Community Blood Center of the Carolinas. Below is some information about this organization which is dedicated to helping people in our very own community. I hope you will help out by donating blood. See address and phone numbers below.

4447 South Boulevard
Charlotte, NC 28209
(704)972-4700
www.cbcc.us

Donor Center hours ~ 8:30 am - 4:00 pm
Open Monday-Friday

ABOUT CBCC

The Community Blood Center of the Carolinas is your community focused blood center. All of the blood you give here stays here to treat patients at our eleven hospoital partners. CBCC provides 85% of the blood supply to these hospitals.

Our committment continues through our board of directors, a group of local business people, who oversee our business decisions from what products we make, to the services we offer, where we send our blodo and the fees we assess. Our medical advisory committee, comprised of local professionals, counsels our directors about medical concerns.

Second, our name tells you that we're a blood center. That's all we do. We gather blood donations from volunteer donors and break it down into red cells, plasma and platelets and other components. These components are tested and shipped out for patient transfusion when we get an "all clear" from our testing laboratory.

Finally, you see that we serve the Carolinas. We supply blood and blood products to our partner hospitals that serve residents in 11 North Carolina counties and three South Carolina counties. To sum us up, we are an independent, locally managed, non-profit community blood center.

DID YOU KNOW?

n By age 72, about 95 percent of all Americans will have needed blood.

n About 60 percent of the population is mecially able to donate, but only 5 percent do.

n When you donate blood, you give a tenth of your total blood supply, a little less than a pint or two cups.

n Your donated blood is separated into three components: red cells, plasma and platelets.

n You can help save three lives with one donation.

n About 4.5 million Americans would die annually without life-saving blood transfusions.

n Cancer patients use more blood products than any other patients. Heart patients are next on the list.

ELEGIBILITY:
You can give blood:
a if you're at least 17 years old
a if you weight at least 110 lbs
a if your're at least in general good health

THE BLOOD DONATION PROCESS
1. Eat before donation blood. You'll feel better afterwards.
2. Complete a health questionnaire. You will be asked questions to make sure that you are healthy enough for blood donation. This is for your safety as well as for the patient who receives your blood.
3. Get a mini-physical. Also to protect your health, a technician will check your blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate and the iron level of your blood.
4. You'll be seated in a comfortable chair where you can put your feet up and relax. Blood will be drawn through a needle near the bend of your arm. The donation itself takes about 10 minutes.
5. After your donation, you should sit and rest for 5 to 10 minutes and enjoy some refreshments.
6. Be sure to eat nourishing meals and drink plenty of fluitds for 24 hours after giving blood, and follow all post donation instructions.

OUR HOSPITAL PARTNERS
We proudly supply blood and blood services to:
CAROLINAS MEDICAL CENTER
CAROLINAS MEDICAN CENTER - MERCY
CAROLINAS MEDICAL CENTER - PINEVILLE
CAROLINAS MEDICAL CENTER - UNIVERSITY
GASTON MEMORIAL HOSPITAL IN GASTONIA
NORTHEAST MEDICAL CENTER IN CONCORD
PIEDMONT MEDICAL CENTER IN ROCK HILL, SC
PRESBYTERIAN HOSPITAL
PRESBYTERIAN HOSPITAL - MATTHEWS
PRESBYTERIAN HOSPITAL - HUNTERSVILLE
PRESBYTERIAN ORTHOPAEDIC HOSPITAL

ABOUT APHERESIS
In addition to whole blood collection, we offer apheresis, also known as automated blood collection, at our donor center, 4447 South Blvd. Apheresis is the selective removal of blood components during the donation process. Donations take an average of one hour to complete, depending on the needed components. During the procedure, your blood is separated into red cells, platelets and plasma. The desired components are harvested, while the rest of your blood is returned to you. The procedure is safe; your blood is never exposed to contaminants.

You can donate platelets and plasma by apheresis every 28 days; red cells every 56 days and double reds every 112 days. You can't make more than 24 donations of any blood component or combination of components in a 12 month period.

TYPICAL USAGE

When we think of the need for blood, we often think of emergencies. But for thousands of Americans, transfusions are a way of life. Patients who suffer from cancer, heart disease and other major illnesses need blood regularly to survive.
Heart transplant - 4 to 6 units red blood cells
Bypass surgery - 2 units red blood cells
Prostate cancer surgery - 2 units red blood cells
Liver transplant - 12 to 14 units red blood cells
Hip replacement - 2 to 4 units red blood cells
Aneurysm - 6 units red blood cells
High dose chemotherapy - 1 apheresis every 3 days
Leukemia - 1 to 2 apheresis weekly
Sickle cell anemia - 2 units red cells monthly

To make sure blood is available for local patients, please donate regularly to CBCC. Please call (704) 972-4700 for more information.

Every day our 11 hospitals provide medical, surgical and emerency trauma services to communiteis throughout our region. We often need to transfuse blood to save lives. Sometimes it's red blood cells to support the life of a newborn. Or it might be plasma for a burn victim or platelets to sustain a leukemia patient undergoing chemotherapy.

Three years ago, we put competition aside and joined forces to create a non-profit Community Blood Center of the Carolinas (CBCC). Our goal is to ensure a safe, reliable and reasonably priced solution to our community's need for blood.

You may not be a medical professional, but you play a vital role in saving local lives. CBCC currently provides more than 85% of the blood we use to treat area residents. But the need for blood never ends.

The #1 reason donors day they give blood is to "help others."
The #1 reason people say they don't give is because "no one asked me."

That's why we're asking you to help us save local lives. Please support CBCC by holding regular blood drives at your business, organization, agency or church. Call (704)972-4701 today and schedule a blood drive. www.cbcc.us

Tree of Light's ~ Nature’s Field is FREE!

I received the following information from Steven Horne at the Tree of Light. These Incredible changes scream "Next stop...Regional Manager..." I hope you will all jump on the band wagon with me and enjoy all the benefits this will ensue! Steven Horne And Kim Balas are top notch teachers in the Naturopathic field. I hope you will accept their invitation, allowing them to be your mentors in your Health and Nutrition education and your Nature's Sunshine business.

Nature’s Field is Free! And Other Important Changes in Tree of Light’s Programs

Visit www.treelite.com to sign up for your FREE monthly issue of Nature's Field!

For our 20th Anniversry, Tree of Light Publishing is initiating some major changes to our educational programs. It’s all part of a shift in Tree of Light’s focus. Up until this last year, the primary focus of Tree of Light has been to provide third-party educational material to help Nature’s Sunshine Managers and Distributors learn about NSP’s product line. Although our products have also been useful in helping to build an NSP business, that was a secondary function, not the primary goal.

Now, the primary focus of Tree of Light will be to help NSP Managers and Distributors build their NSP businesses. Don’t worry, the health educational value will still be there, it’s just that our focus will be on helping you educate your customers to grow your business, rather than just on us providing product and health education for you.

To Learn More About Our New Program,
Listen to Steven Horne's teleconference call rebroadcast explaining the new programs available at Tree of Light. Call 620-294-1252 to hear the recording. To learn more about the changes: Sunshine Sharing, Nature's Field, Herbal hour materials, business and Marketing coaching program. A great way to grow your NSP business. www.treelite.com

There are six parts to these changes, as follows:

1. Nature’s Field will be free from now on.
Those of you who have prepaid subscriptions will receive a credit on your account for the remaining issues on your subscription, which you can use to purchase anything you want or can apply to our new membership program. For those of you who aren’t subscribers, click here to subscribe.

The new Nature’s Field E-zine will be delivered monthly and will feature an in-depth article on our monthly theme. It will be from 4-8 pages in length, and will not include product handouts. (These will be included with our membership programs described below.) There will be a sign up box for the newsletter on the first page of Tree of Light’s website.

2. We’ll have a monthly marketing theme.
In the past, our herbal hour videos, Sunshine Sharing issues and Nature’s Field articles have been pretty much unrelated. It’s only been in the past few months that I’ve started to tie these educational tools together.

By creating a coordinated theme, we are creating a marketing focus for each month. That is, the Sunshine Sharing issue and the Nature’s Field can be used to promote that month’s Herbal Hour topic. We’ll have several featured products selected to go with the theme, which we will provide product handouts for, as usual.

Materials for each topic will ship the month before so they will arrive around the first of the month. The product handouts, Sunshine Sharing issues and Herbal Hours will all be shipped at the same time. The Nature’s Field issue on that topic will be sent about the last day of the month. The topics for next year and the shipping dates for Sunshine Sharing, handouts and Herbal Hour DVDs are listed in the table below:

Month Theme - Ships By
January Iodine Deficiency - December 20
February Chinese Herbalism - January 20
March Inflammation - February 20
April Respiratory Allergies - March 20
May Adaptagens - April 20
June Natural Beauty - May 20
July Leaky Gut Syndrome - June 20
August Liver Detoxification - July 20
September Parasites - August 20
October Antioxidants and Aging - September 20
November Tonic Herbs - October 20
December Keeping a Healthy Home - November 20

To enroll in the Silver or Gold Associate Program, call 800-416-2887.

4. I will be doing less traveling and more training by teleseminars and telephone coaching.

This past year, I schedules some classes and lectures around the country. These seminars went well, but the truth is, it is very tiring to travel so much and it reaches a very limited number of people. Since my goal is to get this information out to as many people as possible, I have decided the best way to do this is to utilize the new technologies that are available and hold classes by telephone conference call. You can learn about our first teleseminar inside this issue.

In addition to these teleseminars, we’re also starting a Tree of Light business coaching program. There are two parts of this program.

The NSP Herbal Consultant Coaching Program

This will be a program for people who are new to the business and want to learn our Body System’s and ABC+D Approach to helping people find the supplements they need.

It will include:
a The ABC+D Course (which includes a manual and 2 videos)
a An electronic copy of our New Healing It Yourself Reference Charts (showing the disease tree, body furnace and other models)
a A Copy of the Comprehensive Guide to Nature’s Sunshine Products
a 5 telephone coaching conference calls with Tree of Light trained coaches who understand the ABC+D system and have successful NSP businesses of their own.

The NSP Consultant Coaching program will cost $295 (and affiliates will get a $75 commission for anyone they refer who signs up for the coaching).

The NSP Business and Marketing Coaching Program

This program will feature 5 telephone coaching calls with me. There will also be handouts and a manual.

This program will be an additional $200, but will be included free for anyone who signs up with a Gold Membership to Tree of Light during the month of December and commits to three months of Gold Membership. Subscribers can cancel their Gold Membership anytime after the first three months.

To subscribe to a Gold Membership call 800-416-2887.

Schedule for the First Business and Marketing Coaching Program

We plan to run both coaching programs monthly, and in the future, a person who registers for the entire program ($495) will receive two months of the Gold Associate program free, and affiliates will receive a $100 commission. Coaching programs will be announced in the free Nature’s Field newsletter. If you are not a subscriber,

Why I’m Offering Business Training and Coaching

Some of you may be wondering why I’m offering business and marketing training, and not just health and product training. Well, fueled by the desire to learn how to get my message out to more people, I’ve spent $12,000 in the past three years on books, audio tapes and seminars to learn all I could about publicity, marketing and business so I could acquire the knowledge and skills I needed to make this vision happen.

As I’ve been implementing what I’ve been learning, it has really helped my business to grow, and I haven’t even begun to implement a tenth of what I’ve already learned. Those of you who have known me for a long time know that one of the things I love to do is synthesize information, simplify it and pass it on to other people. Also, I figure one of the best ways I can reach more people is to help you reach more people. So, this coaching program and the monthly coaching calls you’ll receive with Gold Membership are my opportunity to share with you my $12,000+ worth of business and marketing training, to help all of us spread the message.

5. We’ll be launching an affiliate program.
An affiliate marketing program is a way we can help our Members gain financial benefit from recommending our educational programs to their customers and distributors.

Our Basic and Gold members will receive a special promotional code, which they can put on flyers, in emails or other materials we’ll provide to promote our teleseminars and coaching programs. When a student uses that promotional code they’ll receive either a discount or a free bonus on the class. The Member will also receive a finder’s fee for each paid student.

In other words, we’re going to pay you for allowing us to train your customers and Distributors. So, by promoting our classes and coaching programs to your customers and Distributors, you’ll win in two ways:

1) You’ll receive checks from Tree of Light paying you commissions on every student who signs up.

2) Your customers and Distributors will receive NSP-oriented education that will help them build their NSP businesses, or, at the very least, buy more products from you.

It’s a win/win all the way around.

Later, we’ll introduce other products into our affiliate program, too. Details of our affiliate program will be announced to our Members during January and February.

6. Our materials will increasingly become more effective marketing tools.
As I learn more about marketing, I’m incorporating what I’m learning into the materials we produce. The biggest change you’ll see is in Sunshine Sharing. We’ll be slightly altering the look, and making it more focused on promoting specific products. We’ll also be working to make it more attention grabbing, so people will see the headline on the front cover and be enticed to read more.

For instance, our theme for January is iodine. The headline on Sunshine Sharing will be Are You Iodine Deficient? Underneath will be a short quiz people can take which shows the symptoms of iodine deficiency. The issue will be in the form of short pieces with headlines like: “Why 90% of the Population is Iodine Deficient,” “How Do I Correct Iodine Deficiency?” and so forth. Also, the reader will be encouraged in more than one place in the newsletter to contact the person who gave them the letter for more information. And. because we’ll be providing our subscribers with Handouts and Herbal Hour Videos on the topic you’ll be armed with the information to be the expert on the subject.

Of course, we’ll continue to offer our NHC and CHC courses as well as developing our CPH courses, many of which we will hold by teleseminar, and provide charts, booklets and other materials as we have done in the past. As I indicated, our goal with these new programs is to help NSP Managers and Distributors build larger businesses. This is a win/win for us at Tree of Light, because the bigger NSP grows, the larger the market becomes for the materials we’ve spent 20 years putting together.

If you want to learn more about Tree of Light’s new programs, we’ll be having a couple of conference calls, where we’ll be explaining the new program and answering people’s questions. Since we can host a limited number of people on each conference call, you’ll have to register for the call.

To Learn More About Our New Program,
Listen to Steven Horne's teleconference call rebroadcast explaining the new programs available at Tree of Light.
Call 620-294-1252 to hear the recording, to learn more about the changes with Tree of Light's Sunshine Sharing, Nature's Field, Herbal hour materials, business and Marketing coaching program. A great way to grow your NSP business. www.treelite.com

WATER CONTAMINATION - Reverse Osmosis

WATER CONTAMINATION

The National Water Quality Inventory, the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) official survey, has identified sources of water contamination.

Public water supplies can be contaminated by three main sources (Click on the picture for details):

a Industrial processes
a Agricultural activities
a Landfill seepage

Many programs have been implemented to monitor drinking water in the United States such as the EPA's regulations on maximum contaminant levels (MCLs). This means that, by law, small amounts of these regulated pollutants are allowed in your drinking water and can still be considered safe.

Common Water Pollutants
Contaminants - Source - Concerns
Heavy Metals
Aluminum
- Used in Water Treatment - Process Alzheimer's disease, nervous system damage
Lead - Water pipes - Nerve or brain damage
Copper - Pipe corrosioin, Acid mine drainage - Anemia, digestive disturbance
Arsenic - Naturally occuring, Mine tailings - Even 50 parts per billion can cause cancer
Chemicals
MTBE - Gasoline Additive - Suspected carcinogen
Pesticides - Crop runoff - A variety of serious helth effects, including cancer, nervous system and liver damage
Nitarates - Fertilizers - Blue baby syndrome, gastric conditions, cancer
Chlorine byproducts (THM's) - Disinfectant - Bladder and rectal cancer
Bacteria
Coliform bacteria
- Soil or vegetation - Variety of illnesses, including gastrointestinal distress
Giardia lambia - Sewage discharge - Giardiasis, a disease accompanied by symptoms such as diarrhea, abdominal cramps, nausea and weight loss
Cryptosporidium - Sewage or animal waste - Diarrhea, headaches, abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting and low fever

Point-of-Use Purification is the Only Answer
The only way for you, the consumer, to be absolutely sure about the purity of your drinking water is to purify it yourself at the point of use with Nature's Spring Reverse Osmosis. Read more here

YOU ARE WHAT YOU DRINK!
Your body is made up of mostly water. In fact, water makes up 75 to 85 percent of your cells. And the reason your thirst for water on a regular basis, perhaps even hourly basis is due to three main benefits your body receives from water:

Cohesion - Flexibility
Water creates internal cohesion for your body, giving your cells and organs the flexibility to be stretched and even strained within certain limits without rupturing or tearing. Every time you move, reach for something or stand up, water is helping to protect your organs from being torn in the process.

Temperature - Comfort
Water helps your body stabilize temperature and acclimate to temperature changes. Without sufficient water, the human body can undergo fatal overheating or cooling very quickly.

Solvency - Nutrition & Detoxification
Water also provides natural solvent properties, supporting the body in the great task of breaking down substances for use or disposal. Think of all the vitamins, minerals and nutrients flowing through your organs and into your extremities that allow you to function normally, as well as the detoxification your body carries out through the release of sweat, urine and other means. Without water, these processes would cease to function.
How the Body Uses Water

Function - Uses of Water
Digestion
- Component of gastric juicese, pancreatic fluids and saliva; transport of nutrients through digestive tract; dissolving nutrients
Circulation - Transport of nutrients and waste products in the blood and lymphatic fluids
Absorption - Transport of nutrients into cells for utilization
Elimination - Dissolving waste products of cells; transport of waste out of the body through kidneys, intestines, skin and lungs
Temperature - Component of sweat to help the body maintain a constant temperature
Lubricant - Joints and colon lubricated by fluid

Happy New Year 2006!

Dear Health Enthusiasts,

Every year mid December, I usually take vacation from my Nature's Sunshine business because of Christmas fun and Family gatherings. This year was no different and I am thankful to be my own boss once again.

The past year has been such a wonderful learning experience for me. My Nature's Sunshine business has grown in leaps and bounds. I now have two full time managers in my successline. Both managers have successfully opened own their own Nature's Sunshine stores. Susie Grimmett has her store 20 minutes south of me in Rock Hill, SC and Donna Randolph has her store just 20 minutes West, in Gastonia, NC. This year promises to be a year full of Health and Nutritional classes as well as Business Building meetings. I have some wonderful new Nature's Sunshine members who are excited at the opportunity to build their own business like Susie and Donna. In planning for this year, it is my goal to support these members so they can be successful.

I thank all of you for your questions over the year. These questions and conversations with you, have lead me to find some wonderful resources and wonderful new friends. I pray you have a very Blessed Year!

Share the Health,
