Health Freedom Information and Events - Colorado & North Carolina

*****************
Colorado
*****************
Hello Colorado CNH Members and Friends,

It is my pleasure to invite you to the first meeting of our new Wellness Information & Networking Group called "WING!" sponsored by The Colorado Coalition for Natural Health.

"WING!" has been created to provide our community with the finest in natural health care educational information, health freedom and legislative awareness information, networking opportunities for practitioners in all facets of natural health care and discussions with great speakers exploring topics relevant to what the Colorado CNH stands for – natural health.

"WING!" is for natural health care practitioners, their clients, family, friends and anyone interested in natural health care that would enjoy exchanging ideas, interests, business cards and brochures over a great lunch with a guest speaker! All we ask is a tax-deductible donation of $5.00, over and above the cost of lunch, to help insure the procurement of interesting and informative guest speakers.

Our third "WING!" luncheon will be on Friday, January 21, 2005 from 11:30am to 1:00pm. Future meetings will be on the third Friday of every month. "WING!" meets at the Sweet Tomatoes, located at 9445 Park Meadows Drive in Lone Tree, CO 80124 (on the SE corner of C-470 and Yosemite, right behind the United Artist movie theater complex). Please e-mail your RSVP to

North Carolina
Legislative Alert

*****************
Dear Friend:

The North Carolina Legislative Review Commission is conducting a study of whether "naturopathic medicine" should be licensed by the State. The future of naturopathy is at stake! The proponents of licensure are trying to convince the Commission that because they went to schools in Washington, Oregon, Connecticut, or Arizona, and then plan to move to North Carolina, they should be licensed. These four schools teach what they call "naturopathic medicine," which involves the use of prescription drugs, the use of surgery, and flies in the face of what Benedict Lust intended when he developed the practice of naturopathy. We have an opportunity to set the record straight!

This letter is to alert CNH members and interested persons. You can make a big difference by calling, e-mailing, and writing the members of the Legislative Review Commission using the enclosed contacts sheet and asking them to OPPOSE the licensing of "naturopathic physicians," at the next Commission Meeting, December 7, 2004, at 1:00 pm in Room 1124 of the Legislative Building in Raleigh, NC.

What would happen, if the Legislative Commission issued a report in favor of licensing? The proponents of licensure will run to the legislature next year with a report stating it is okay for "naturopathic physicians" to be elevated to the status of primary care physicians -- without the medical background that comes with hospital internships, residencies and traditional allopathic and osteopathic medical school training. The report would also state that these "naturopathic physicians" could get licensed to diagnose, treat and prevent human health conditions, injury and disease.

By contrast, the overwhelming majority of traditional natural healers such as yourself -- who favor natural and non-invasive preventive care, based on educating clients how to maintain healthy lifestyles, and who pose no threat of harm to anyone -- would have to either abandon your chosen career or face the threat of being fined and put out of business. This monopolistic, exclusionary legislation is bad news for naturopathy and for the citizens of North Carolina.

It is critical that you please take a few moments today to call, e-mail, and write the members of the Commission and urge them to OPPOSE the licensing of "naturopathic physicians." And remember: this will be a lengthy battle – the Coalition will be calling on you again to voice your opinion to the legislature. If you have any questions, please also feel free to call us here at the Coalition. (Phone 800-586-4264; Fax 800-598-4264;

Best regards,

Boyd J. Landry Executive Director

North Carolina Legislative Review Commission Please call, write, or e-mail every member of the Commission as soon as possible. You will have to make a separate contact to each Member in order to register your opposition to the licensing of naturopathic medicine in North Carolina. Forward any comments from the Commission to
boydlandry@naturalhealth.org. This information is crucial in lobbying against licensing in North Carolina.
