Schools Out, Time to Begin Our Real Education Webinar

Do you enjoy learning things? Do you have confidence in your ability to learn just about anything you want to learn? Because of the incorrect learning model used in our public school system, most people hate learning by the time they graduate from high school or college. Most people also have doubts about their intelligence and their ability to learn, too.

The fact is that the model of education used in public school is wrong. It doesn't work. It's like the line from Paul Simon's song Kodachrome, "When I look back on all the crap I learned in High School, it's a wonder I can think at all." The fact is, how much of what you "learned" in high school or college is material you can still remember and put into practical use today? Probably very little.

So, I'm going to tackle talking about one of my favorite subjects—education. I love learning, but I think it's because I made a very important decision when I was in Junior High. I decided I wasn't going to let school interfere with my education. Sound strange? It really isn't. Most people have allowed public school to interfere with their ability to learn.

In college, I participated in a special class on learning and teaching that had a profound impact on my life. This class taught me the "three person solution" to the problem of education. It helped me understand why I was a successful learner and gave me the tools I needed to tackle learning just about anything. It also changed the way I taught.

To understand the impact of this class, let me ask you a question, "Right now, could you stand up and without any notes give a one hour lecture on any class you had in high school or college?" Probably not. But I can lecture on stuff I learned in this class for several hours without any notes almost 30 years after I took it. Not only that, but I use this material constantly in the way I learn and present information.

An Inspirational Video

My daughter turned me on to the musical play Les Miserables, which I have fallen in love with so much that I actually waded through Victor Hugos unabridged novel. That's why I particularly liked it when David Carpenter forwarded me a link to Susan Boyle singing one of my favorite songs from the musical for the "Britain's Got Talent" TV Show. Who's Afraid of the Big Bad... Whatever?

Forgive me for being cynical, but do you ever get the feeling that the news media is out to keep everybody in a constant state of fear? Over the past few years we have had warnings about the Avian flu, SARS, antibiotic resistant bacteria, anthrax and much more. Couple this with all the reports of natural disasters and it's enough to keep everyone good and scared. I'm sure this plays nicely into drug company profits, too.

A few years back I wrote this article and entitled it, "Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Flu?" I updated the information a little and posted it as an article about being prepared for general emergencies and health problems. I firmly believe in emergency preparedness and always keep emergency supplies on hand.
