Still time to Volunteer

You will be able to select your specific Festival volunteer assignments, either after all masses this weekend outside of church, or in room 103 of the Ministry building on Wednesday or Thursday evening, April 29-30, from 6:30-8:00pm. Volunteers are requested to sign up for at least 2 hours. If you can provide more time, that would be terrific. We need help everywhere at the moment. I would particularly appreciate getting help with the set up and tear down activities from those of you who are able to lift and carry tables, chairs, set up tents, etc. If you have any strong teenagers in your families, this work would also be ideal for them. Again, however you can lend a hand, we are so grateful!

It's Spring again and time for our annual BENVENUTI! Italian Festival. We've changed the schedule a bit and added some events. We wanted you to know what's NEW this year, so you don't MISS A THING!

THURSDAY, May 14

GROWN UPS' NIGHT OUT

NB: Since it's a school night, we have moved all of the children's events and our popular kick-off Parade to Friday...

Thursday Night will now feature live opera and classical music, our usual great food, 30 unique Vendors to browse, the start of the Silent Auction, a NEW BOCCI (Bocce) Tournament, and a special advance-sale-reservation-only WINE-TASTING UNDER the STARS (6 flights of wine, $20* per person) in the gated patio. (wine-tasting tickets available for purchase after all Masses April 25 & 26th, May 2 & 3rd. A generous portion of the proceeds will be donated back to St. Philip Neri by Grapevine of Baxter Village. Please consider supporting this event. Two nights only at 7 pm.)

FRIDAY, May 15

5-10pm

CHILDREN'S KICK-OFF NIGHT

LUNCH served from 11:30-2pm (limited menu - sampling of items)

5:30 pm Dora & Diego come from Carowinds Park to Grand Marshal the Saints & Angels costume parade for all children up to age 12.

They will choose 2 winners (boy and girl) and crown the 2009 Li'l PRINCE & PRINCESS BENVENUTI.

Line up with your children at the Main Hall by 5:30...follow the sounds of St. Philip Neri's Brass band!

Games and Rides begin this evening, also (wrist band for Friday night: $5; Rock-Climbing Wall and horse-and-carriage rides extra.) There will also be a second WINE-TASTING UNDER the STARS event this evening (see above)

SATURDAY, MAY 16

11am-8pm

THE BEST DAY OF ALL!

Everything is open, all rides, all games, all food booths, all vendors, the Bocci Tournamentey finale, the ITALIAN IDOL TALENT CONTEST takes the Outdoor Stage at 1pm with Finalists performing before Celebrity Judges to win Cash & great prizes! A full day, packed with live entertainment, food, things to do and see.(Wrist bands for all-day inflatable rides: $10.)

We end with a flourish: 5:30 close of bidding for the Silent Auction, followed by the drawing of the winning tickets for 4 grand prizes. Concluding with the excitement of the LIVE AUCTION with Auctioneer Allan Miller, inside at 6:00.

Special News

In addition to Grapevine's donation back to the Church for the Wine-tasting and their wine sales during the reserved event, two other Vendors are offering revenue-sharing of their proceeds:

DREAM DINNERS is selling $25 tickets (in advance after Masses and on-site) to your choice of 2 dates held at Dream Dinners' facility. What you get: to go to an event at their tastefully-decorated commercial kitchen, taste samples, have fun (!), choose from a dozen or more full-course meals, assemble, and go home with a DINNER FOR SIX, ready to pop in the oven or freezer. HALF OF THE TICKET PRICE WILL BE DONATED BACK TO ST PHILIP NERI! If you choose not to go after you buy the ticket, 100% is returned to the Church, and you get a full charitable deduction.

MY CRUISE OUTLET will be on-site, too, helping festival-goers who wish to plan a cruise at the best possible prices! TWO of the cruises they offer will be designated as Special St. Philip Neri Cruises...HALF of the profit from these designated cruises will be donated back to the Church!
