MORE ABOUT DIET, EXERCISE, WATER AND SUPPLEMENTING.
DIET:
If you don't change your diet then nothing else you do will work. However, sometimes considered somewhat a hereditary disease, I believe it is more about the sharing of recipes than sharing the same blood line. I think basically diabetes II comes from making poor food choices, over a long period of time. In todays world of fast foods, and manufacturer's irresponsible production of so many high glycemic treats and junk foods, laden in preservatives, chemicals and "dead foods" it is hard for many to turn around their situation. Unfortunately we have been taught to eat things we shouldn't eat and to not listen to our bodies. Many people are diabetic long before the numbers begin to climb high. Unfortunately people don't usually consider changing their diet and lifestyle until they are forced to... when those numbers are out of control. Our body gives us signs all along the way, but most people just ignore these signs.
1. Fresh Fruits and Raw (or slightly steamed) vegetables should be your primary food sources. This should be 2/3 of your plate at every meal. Snacking on fruits and veggies between meals is also a big plus.
2. Lean meats, fish, whole grains, nuts and legumes should make up the additional 1/3 portion of your plate.
3. Remove all manufactured foods: Read labels~ If it has refined sugar, refined flours, hydrogenated oils, corn syrup, preservatives, added in chemicals.... don't eat it. Any ingredients that you can't pronounce? Don't eat it.
Processed manufactured refined foods have had all the nutrients stripped out of them. Go with foods in their most natural and living form so your body can use them properly. Eat only food which are ALIVE and leave DEAD foods with no living cells alone (don't eat anything which won't rot quickly and/or has a long shelf life). Dead foods, can't be properly broken down and so aren't able to be used in the body. Not being able to be digested and used by the body, they will instead cause toxic build up throughout the body and in turn, the body will not be able to transport sugars or insulin properly.
EXERCISE & DEEP BREATHING:
Walk for a half hour a day, swim, bike ride, join an aerobics class... or just do stretching and bending exercises...anything to get your blood and lymphatic system moving. Exercise will help the lymphatic system move toxins out of the body, and will help the body to move the insulin into the cells better and will get the digestive system to digest/absorb and transport nutrients better. Start out exercising slow and increase as you feel comfortable.
In addition, practice deep breathing 3-4 times a day, for at least 5 minutes at a time. This is an easy exercise to implement into everyones life. Practice using your entire lung cavity. Deep breath in to the count of 4, Hold for a 4 count and then exhale completely as you count to 4. You will have the same benefits as mentioned above with exercise. Your lungs are the first line of defense in your immune system. With proper oxygen being brought in your entire body will benefit. So often we shallow breath and our body suffers a great deal. Practicing this a few times a day, and your body will begin to do it voluntarily during other times of the day.
WATER:
The rule of thumb when trying to figure out how much we should drink daily is 1/2 your weight in ounces.
For example if you weigh 200 lbs you should drink 100 ounces of pure clean water each day.
Drink Pure clean water. Check out my web page http://www.herbsplus4health.com/page_watertreatment for information about the Nature's Sunshine Reverse Osmosis unit to clean your tap water. This page explains why we need to be concerned about drinking Clean Pure water as opposed to just regular tap water.
Since I first began my NSP membership 10+ years ago, I have wanted to get the RO unit. I had attended a School of Natural Health taught by NSP, and during the class they gave away one of these units. From that moment on I wanted one. This past Christmas my mom (also and NSP member) bought me one. Isn't she the greatest? :) I guess the reason I put if off for so long was because I thought our water didn't taste too bad. Now that we use the RO unit, and enjoy pure water, you can really taste the difference when you accidently get tap water. I feel so much better knowing my family isn't getting all those chemicals that come from our public water tower.
SUPPLEMENTING:
When looking at supplementing, you need to look at the things which you are missing from your everyday diet. With Diabetes we are often looking at lack of Good Dietery Fiber, Probiotics, Food Enzymes, Essential Fatty Acids, Antioxidants. These are the very first things which we need to start addressing. NSP has put together a program called the 90 Day Challenge, which takes these 6 very needed products and ships them to you each month, and gives you a discount to help defray the cost, plus a 10% rebate. Their are also choices/substitutes in this program on most products to help members fine tune their program to fit their needs.
The Thai-Go™ helps remove free radicals and reduces inflammation. You take a shot glass full twice a day.
**Optional substitute is Noni Juice.
Super Supplemental with iron (Multi vitamin with iron - for anyone under 40 years old or those who are diagnosed as anemic)
**Optional substitutes are Super Supplemental without iron (Generally people over 40 do not need extra iron), or VitaWave Liquid Vitamins.
Omega-3 Good fats help to transport hormones and nutrients. Your Essential Fatty acids should be taken at a different time than your fiber supplement, so that the fiber doesn't absorb them.
**Optional substitutes are Flax seed oil softgel capsules or Flax seed oil liquid (great drizzled over cottage cheese and eaten with pineapples).
Nature's Three Fiber If you aren't getting 36+ grams of fiber a day then you need to supplement in fiber.(Make sure to take this at a different time than the Essential Fatty acids). Mix 1-1/2 teaspoons with 8 oz. water or juice. Drink with one or two meals daily.
**Optional substitutes are Psyllium Hull Capsules or Everybody's Fiber (best for anyone suffering from inflammatory bowel disorders i.e. colitis, crohn's, IBS).
Bifidophilus Flora Force provides billions of beneficial micro-organisms that help support the immune system.Your colon needs to repopulate with good bacteria every day. A healthy colon is imperative to keeping the body healthy. Take 1-2 capsules with each meal.
Food Enzymes need for digestion. One capsule Food Enzymes will help you digest a minimum of 30 grams of protein, 30 grams of carbohydrates and 20 grams of fats.
**Optional substitute is Proactazyme Plus
NOTE: If feeling healthier isn't enough incentive, you'll earn rewards for accepting, completing and sponsoring others in the Habit-of-Health 90-Day Challenge. These products bought separately would cost over $200. retail. As a member they come to about $140 if purchased separately. When using the 90 day challenge monthly product pack sent automatically it costs just $115. plus you get your monthly 10% rebate each month, and a combined extra 5% accumulating cash discount applied on the third order PLUS 5% discount on Habit-of-Health orders each month following the initial 90 days.
The above program is where I begin all my diabetic clients and very often other clients who are having a problem due to nutrient depletion, or toxic waste overload due to poor diets. These are the supplements which when taken together help the body to balance better. I find it is a great place for most people to begin their new health program.
After being on the 90 day challenge for at least 90 days, clients can adjust the program to include supplements depending on need. Most often once the diet, exercise & breathing, water and supplementing have been in place for this amount of time we will see major improvements.
Additional supplements which Diabetics have successfully added to their program as needed are product such as: Zinc, GTF Chromium, Magnesium Complex, Co-Q10, Sugar Reg, HY-C, Hoodia, Ayurvedic Blood Sugar Formula, Pro-Pancreas, PBS, Target P-14, Stevia, P-X, Nopal, & Xylitol (coming soon). Which products are needed will be easier to determine once the four main components mentioned above have been consistently met.
