HB 1303 Update!
A letter From Citizens for Health
Dear Friends,
Well, the Health Committee hearing was canceled as session ended early today. And since today was the deadline (cross over day), the bill can not proceed any further this year. BUT, the good news is that Chairman Wright spoke with all of the supporters that showed up today and told us he will keep the bill alive by referring it to a study committee. This gives us the chance to have it heard next session (2006). Rep Wright feels this is the best chance to have success with this type of bill.
Since Tuesday's hearing, at least a dozen of the Med Societies lobbyist began canvassing the health committee members & caused some to change their position from Yes/Maybe to No... The study will bring supportive legislators together with some of those opposed to try to hammer out a compromise. More on this as we learn more.
The other piece of good news is that our voices were heard! Many legislators commented that they had heard from their constituents. Rep. Paul Luebke (HB1303 Sponsor) & Mike Causey (our lobbyist) were very pleased with the response!
