Winter EScentials

What is aromatherapy?
Aromatherapy is the practice of using 100% pure essential oils to positively influence, alter, shift, modify and change emotions and moods. It is a powerful tool that compliments numerous alternative health-and-wellness modalities and practices such as herbal supplements, massage, skin care, chiropractic care, acupuncture, other natural health trades.

Safety Tips
1. Dilute essential oils (except for Lavender) before applying them directly to the skin.
2. Keep essential oils out of reach of children.
3. Do not use essential oils internally.
4. Citrus essential oils are phototoxic. Avoid direct sunlight for 2-3 hours after using these essential oils on the skin.
5. Keep essential oils away from the eyes. Use milk to flush if exposure occurs--essential oils are NOT water-soluble.
6. Use caution with someone who suffers from chronic or serious health conditions such as heart concerns and neurological disorders. Consult a professional healthcare provider before beginning any program.
7. Be careful when using essential oils during pregnancy. Consult your physician before use.

History
During World War II, Dr. Jean Valnet used essential oils to treat soldiers when drugs were in short supply. He later successfully treated patients with essential oils to wean them off chemical-based medicines.

Home Spa Party Tips
Preparation and practice is a vital part of a successful home spa party. Know your hostess and their audience. You can customize your presentation based on their personality, needs and goals. For example, if you are presenting to a group of moms, you’ll want to tailor your party towards stress relief, energy boosting, baby needs and caregiver essentials.

You can also create scripted note cards for a variety of topics such as women’s needs, children’s concerns, bath and body, stress-relief and pet essentials. Have your hostess choose from one of these scripts that will best serve her/his group of friends and family. Keep it simple, fun and exciting – for you and the hostess.

Aromatherapy Business-Building Tips
A strong marketing plan will help you stay focused on your aromatherapy business goals as well as save you time and money. It will help you develop a positive and effective presence and name recognition among your target market as well as educate them about your aromatherapy products. You will be able to create special offers, promotions, prices and services to appropriate market segments as a way to influence them to try your products, which historically result in increased product sales. This will also help you increase and retain a loyal customer base.

To get started, select a specific target market to serve. Who will be apart of your customer base? Is there a certain group of people who will benefit from your products? For example, will your products focus more on children, adults or animals? Be sure to stick to your marketing budget and review your marketing performance semi-annually or annually.
