Health Freedom Information and Events

Colorado & Ohio information below

Colorado

Hello Colorado CNH Members and Friends,

It is my pleasure to invite you to the first meeting of our new Wellness Information & Networking Group called "WING!" sponsored by The Colorado Coalition for Natural Health.

"WING!" has been created to provide our community with the finest in natural health care educational information, health freedom and legislative awareness information, networking opportunities for practitioners in all facets of natural health care and discussions with great speakers exploring topics relevant to what the Colorado CNH stands for – natural health.

"WING!" is for natural health care practitioners, their clients, family, friends and anyone interested in natural health care that would enjoy exchanging ideas, interests, business cards and brochures over a great lunch with a guest speaker! All we ask is a tax-deductible donation of $5.00, over and above the cost of lunch, to help insure the procurement of interesting and informative guest speakers.

Our third "WING!" luncheon will be on Friday, January 21, 2005 from 11:30am to 1:00pm. Future meetings will be on the third Friday of every month. "WING!" meets at the Sweet Tomatoes, located at 9445 Park Meadows Drive in Lone Tree, CO 80124 (on the SE corner of C-470 and Yosemite, right behind the United Artist movie theater complex). THE OHIO CONSUMER HEALTH FREEDOM ACT

HIGHLIGHTS:

“Complimentary or alternative health care service” means the provision of any complementary or alternative health care treatment to a patient by an individual who is not a licensed health care professional.

“Complementary or alternative health care treatment” means a method of treating an individual’s health condition that is designed to be an alternative to prevailing or conventional methods used to treat the health condition. Complementary or alternative health care treatment may be provided in addition to or in place of other treatment options.

It is hereby declared to be the public policy of the state: That the provision of complementary or alternative health care services enhances the health and welfare of the residents of this state; and that the regulation or licensure of complementary or alternative health care service providers is inappropriate and unnecessary.

No individual other than a licensed health care professional who provides complementary or alternative health care services shall do any of the following: Perform surgery or any other procedure that punctures the skin; Willfully provide diagnosis of an allopathic disease; Willfully provide diagnosis or treatment of a physical or mental health condition of any individual that directly poses to the individual diagnosed or treated a recognizable and imminent risk of significant and discernable physical or mental harm; Willfully counsel any individual to discontinue use of any dangerous drug, drug, or therapeutic device prescribed to the individual by a licensed health professional authorized to prescribe drugs; Administer or prescribe any drug or medical oxygen; Hold out, state, indicate, advertise, or otherwise imply to any person that the individual is licensed by this state to practice as a health care professional; Notwithstanding any provision of the Revised Code, an individual who provides complementary or alternative health care services may refer to self using a title or qualification conferred on the individual by virtue of degrees, training, experience, credentials, or other qualifications attained by the individual.

An individual providing complementary or alternative health care services who is not a licensed health care professional shall do all of the following: Prior to providing complementary or alternative health care services, disclose to the recipient of the services in a plainly worded statement the following information: The nature of the services to be provided and the theory on which the services are based; The degrees, training, experience, credentials, or other qualifications held by the individual with regard to the services to be provided; A statement, printed clearly in not less than eleven-point font, that reads verbatim: “I AM NOT LICENSED BY THE STATE OF OHIO AS A HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONAL. THE STATE HAS NOT ADOPTED ANY EDUCATIONAL OR TRAINING REQUIREMENTS FOR UNLICENSED COMPLEMENTARY OR ALTERNATIVE HEALTH CARE SERVICE PROVIDERS”; Maintain for at least two years the above described acknowledgement.

If a professional board receives a complaint against a provider of complementary or alternative healthcare services who is not licensed by that board to practice as a licensed health care professional shall do the following: If the preliminary investigation reveals no significant evidence that a violation or failure to comply occurred, the board shall not pursue the matter further.

Based upon studies, research, and public policy declarations by state governments, it is evident that millions of Americans and hundreds of thousands of Ohioans presently receive a substantial amount of their health care from providers of complementary or alternative health care services.

Notwithstanding the widespread use of complementary or alternative health care services, for Ohioans, access to these services has been hampered and the flow of information about these services inhibited.

Ohio’s failure to acknowledge complementary or alternative health care services impedes the beneficial exchange of health care information between a complementary or alternative health care service provider and the provider’s clients and between a complementary or alternative health care service provider and a licensed health care professional with regard to their mutual patients.

The unregulated practice of complementary or alternative health care services is suitable and desirable for the public health and welfare.
